Nancy Pfotenhauer on John McCain America's Newsroom Interview TRANSCRIPT: MEGYN KELLY: You guys and your attacks about this whole Ayers bit and Governor Palin mentioning Reverend Wright is a clear attempt to distract the American people from the economy. An issue that the polls show the viewers, voters, trust Barack Obama more on. NANCY PFOTENHAUER: It makes since that whenever there is an economic downpour the party of the incumbent in the Whitehouse usually takes most of the hit for that. We spend about 80% of our time talking about the economy and Senator McCain actions speak louder than words on this. When it became evident the extent of the crisis on Wall Street and that it would infect Main Street, he took tremendous action, even suspending his campaign and pulling 12 million dollars in paid advertising off the air 40 days out from the election in order to make sure it wasnt perceived as a political move. KELLY: According to you that is how he feels and yet he has his Vice Presidential pick Sarah Palin and she goes after Obama not only on Ayers but Reverend Wright a subject that McCain said he would not attack Obama on saying that it is clear, this is McCain: It is clear Obama does not share the world view of Reverend Wright. And McCain saying he intended on running an issue centric campaign. Is going after William Ayers and Reverend Wright an issue centric campaign? PFOTENHAUER: At this point we are 4 weeks away from pulling the level, the bottom line is no one really knows who Barack Obama is. KELLY: I got to ask you about this Keating 5 relationship because the Obama campaign releasing a 13-minute video that suggests John McCain was very much tied to Charles Keating. That his judgment, in connection with the Savings and Loan crisis is proof positive, exhibit A, that he is not qualified to handle the current economic crisis. How do you combat that, what is your response? PFOTENHAUER: Now Senator McCain, obviously there was an exhaustive inquiry into the whole Keating 5 issue. It hasnt come up because he was exonerated and because the Democratic Minority Council or Special Council even at the time said he shouldnt have been charged and he was kept on didnt want it to be all democrats brought before that kangaroo court.
