ANCHOR BRIEF: According to a report from Radio Free Asia, Chinese communist authorities stopped parents from holding a memorial for schoolchildren who died during the May 12 earthquake in Sichuan province. The incident happened last month during the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional Chinese family holiday. More than 100 parents gathered at a school in Dujiangyan city, but were stopped by police. A female schoolteacher surnamed Zhou was detained for helping parents write protest slogans calling for justice for the dead students and teachers. Reporters at the memorial were arrested and had their photos and film destroyed. One parent said that police had been threatening and monitoring parents of the earthquake victims. There are also reports of police in other areas of Sichuan preventing parents from visiting the schools where their children died.
