To me, as a character, Niall makes no sense, even trying to think of him as a psychopath or someone with a severe personality disorder. What he seems to be, for the writers, is a tool to make things happen--as opposed to someone like Newt. Newt's done crazy things, but they make sense in terms of his illness.

Mike has told Michaela that he sees her as a daughter and nothing more. Michaela needs to accept that and move on. She's being ridiculous in thinking there could ever be romance between her and Mike.

Sep 4, 2008 - Niall's story breaks my heart and there's no way out of it. His anger/jealousy/resentment has caused him to do the unspeakable. Yet all he wanted was this scene. Him, surrounded by his family who care for him. 3 of his sisters, his brother & brother-in-law and mom all teasing each other & and talking about their problems. Clearly he cares about JP and wants to be a big brother to him (which JP so needs). I can't bare this storyline. Sadder than all the romance. Tragic on so many levels.

Sep 4, 2008 - Bitterness is a very destructive feeling, maybe the most destructive. Especially in his case; he hates them for not loving him. Now that he's been around his family for months, knows them and interprets their words to suit his bitterness, there's nothing anyone could say that would make him forgive them. Sure a 'normal' bitter person wouldn't go as far as Niall has, but he seems to have other problems as well, like anger issues. All this put together with a soap-edge makes sense.

Plus, he knows she was only 14 when she gave him up. Now, if he had revealed that he was her son, and she'd told him to go to hell, then he would have reason to be bitter.

If people always told their loved ones they cheated on them, always talked to someone about something bad as soon as they found out etc, we'd all be happy. But we aren't. What I'm saying is that bitterness is destructive in that sense that it blinds you from forgiving. So I think Niall is built up well, just like Ste for example; Evil, but you see where they're coming from. Haven't seen extreme emotions portrayed this well in any soap before.

Remember when she was saying how the one regret she had in life was Nial's father dying...She never mentions anything about her other son in front of him so he doesnt know that she regrets and is looking for him.
